Great podcast and glad to have a wild weasel in my podcast rotation again!
Very glad to see a new episode. I had assumed that Bruce had decided to devote himself to healing the sick, playing games, and other pursuits and we would not be seeing any more. Glad to be proven wrong.
In the podcast reference was made to Big Board Games. I had gotten interested in ordering an oversized game board for one of my games last year but, so far as I could tell, Big Board Games is no longer in business. Do you know if they are still around and, if so, would you mind posting a link to their site?
Enjoyed the podcast, and particularly the focus on area-impulse games, which are a favorite of mine. One thing I would note is that the area-impulse mechanics of Storm over Arnhem are clearly trying to depict tactical combat– units become weak as they become visible, which is to say when attackers move into defended territory. That sets them up to be attritted by uncommitted defenders (who in turn can get hit more effectively once they reveal themselves). So the mechanics naturally encourage packet movement with overwatch, which is how armies are supposed to operate in an urban environment. I think once the system got upscaled (beginning with TP:S) to a more operational scale, the mechanics ceased to make sense in the same way.
Really great to have you back! In this age of ubiquitous unboxing videos, you were solely missed…
